When Angels Flew Over
-
In a way, an exstension of The Geography of Looking, these are an on-going collection of people looking into a distance, into a 'view'. A stillness is present. When I discussed these with the artist Andrew Lanyon, they reminded him of an expression his grandparents used to use - when angels flew over - which was used for a moment when, just for a second, time seemed to sort of stop. Silly for me to use this notion for my photographs when of course all photography inherently stops time, but it seems somehow that these stop it more - or rather it is a record, stuck in time, of when time actually stopped in real time. Something like that!
