Halt
–
I heard something on the radio other day about how snow can do more than just stop the normal running of a day, it can bring the world to a complete halt; specifically the 'adult world'. It was in the context of child literature and how many of the genres most successful books, like the Narnia and His Dark Materials books, have Winter/snow featured heavily in the narrative. Interesting I thought.
Well, this Winter, during the snow, as I was taking some photographs, I really sensed a stillness which was almost forced, a holding back, a breathing in; a halting. So this new collection seems to be about the silent stand-off that you can have with the future. An awareness of the future but a reluctance to go there right now? Hopefully snow is not going to be an essential ingredient in these images. Snow can simply say it rather succinctly and beautifully and it was snow which bought the notion to my attention.
Perhaps it is just When Angels Flew Over but without the people? They sing from the same hymn sheet for sure- or perhaps it's a song with no words? All humming silently together? It's a lot about the space that is left when noise is diminished, I know that much. Click on an image to enlarge it.
